Dear SGParents,
Both Louis and I made a trip to IAHP at Philadelphia, USA, to attend the "How to Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence" course ( 12-18 March 2006). It was such a rewarding, motivating and inspiring trip!
Prior to attending this course, I had lots of "Why" on the progress of my 2 children. For example, I was troubled by my boy's ability to comprehen paragraphs of text by a glance BUT was unable to read out the text. After the trip and given the opportunities to speak to the experienced staff from IAHP, including Glenn Doman and Janet Doman, my doubts were clarified.
Witnessing the live demonstrations and performance from the students of the Evan Thomas Institute (ETI) was one of the most rewarding aspects of this trip. The kids are simply incredible and lovely. They play the violin, do gymnastics, read, problem solve etc very well. In short, I am convinced that mothers and fathers are the best teacher in the world!
Initially, we felt sad that we had missed the course when it was held in Singapore years back. However, we would now consider it a blessing in disguise.
Firstly, we doubt that we would get the chance to see Glenn Doman in person if we did not make a trip to Philadelphia. Secondly, we would not have gotten the chance to talk to parents of the ETI, which had proven to be rewarding and inspiring. Thirdly, and most importantly, witnessing the live performance of the students from ETI!
In our opinion, for parents who wish to attend the course with the hope of finding out the "whys" aspect of the GD programs, and to gain motivation and inspiration, you will find the trip fruitful and money well-spent. However, for parents who wish to find out more about the "how to" aspect of the GD programs, you will be disappointed because it was not the main focus of this course. I think reading the GD books, joining forums and attending the SGParents get-together sessions will give you more information. : )
Cheers, Eileen and Louis.
